Energizing through Education
The five westernmost colleges and universities of the North Dakota University System (NDUS) form BakkenU. These institutions – Bismarck State College, Dakota College at Bottineau, Dickinson State University, Minot State University, and Williston State College – offer a one-stop shop for exploring energy-related programs or hundreds of other exciting offerings.
There are numerous credit programs that can help potential students diversify their portfolios. There are also various short-term energy-related training programs offered through TrainND Northwest and TrainND Southwest.

BakkenU Institutions
Bismarck State College – The National Energy Center of Excellence is the pride and joy of BSC, and houses a nationally-recognized energy industry degree and training program. Enrolled students can learn about electrical power and transmission systems, instrumentation and control, energy generation, and much more!
Dakota College at Bottineau – If you are ready to take the next step in your career, explore the opportunities available at Dakota College at Bottineau. DCB offers a variety of career and technical programs along with transfer degrees available on-campus and on-line. DCB can help you achieve your goals through a transfer program, certificate, diploma, or an associate degree program.
Dickinson State University – DSU has been leading the charge to get members of the Bakken workforce back to school to meet their individual goals. Through its IMPACT Program, DSU offers everything from individual courses and certificates to a full degree.
Minot State University – Nestled in another of the designated “hub cities” of North Dakota’s Oil Patch, MSU understands the needs of the workforce. MSU offers a one-of-a-kind program called Energy Economics and Finance, which would be sure to bolster anyone’s resume.
Williston State College – Located in the heart of the Bakken, Williston knows more about the needs of the oilfield workforce than any other city around. WSC is no different, and has many degree and certificate options available including programs in Petroleum Technology and Welding, and additional workforce training available through TrainND Northwest.
